In 1688, William embarked on a mission to depose his Catholic father-in-law from the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland. The other contender was the King in Prussia, who based his claim to the title on the will of Frederick Henry, William III's grandfather. The lion was always a popular noble symbol, originating as a symbol of nobility, power, and royal aspirations in western culture going all the way back to Hercules. The lion was also heavily used as a heraldic symbol in border territories and neighbouring countries of the Holy Roman Empire and France. It was in all likelihood a way of showing independence from the Holy Roman Emperor, who used an eagle in his personal arms and the King of France, who used the famous Fleur-de-lis. Philip saw William as a threat to his rule, and therefore, he hired an assassin to kill him in 1584. The Dutch Republic would collapse in 1795, and the last of the governors fled to England. William would go on to lead the revolt by the Dutch against the Spanish rule during the Eighty Years’ War. The Eighty Years’ War, or Dutch War of Independence, had the Seventeen Provinces consisting of modern-day Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, and parts of France fighting against the reign of Philip II of Spain. The Dutch Revolt which began in 1568 is not as simple as the story of one nobleman rebelling against the King of Spain.
More, the monarchy became more liberal with the establishment of the constitution in 1848. The Dutch were very unhappy with the high rate of taxation the Spanish crown imposed on them. The Seventeen Provinces were also required to ask for permission from the crown for their actions. Moreover, Philip had Spanish troops stationed in the area, much to their dismay, to ensure the Dutch followed the laws.
France never recognized any of this, nor allowed the Orange-Nassaus or the Hohenzollerns to obtain anything of the principality itself. They maintain the tradition of William the Silent and the House of Orange-Nassau. After the café the story of the Dutch royal family continues, up the stairs to the ground floor and on the first floor of the east wing of the palace. In these rooms and corridors, we look at the different stages of the lives of members of the House of Orange as stadtholders, kings and queens.

Rival claims to the title have been made by German emperors and kings of the House of Hohenzollern and by the head of the French noble family of Mailly. The current users of the title are Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands (Orange-Nassau), Georg Friedrich (of Hohenzollern), and Guy (of Mailly-Nesle). Traditionally, members of the Nassau family were buried in Breda; but because that city was in Spanish hands when William died, he was buried in a new crypt in the New Church, Delft. The monument on his tomb was originally very modest, but it was replaced in 1623 by a new one, made by Hendrik de Keyser and his son Pieter. Since then, most of the members of the House of Orange-Nassau, including all Dutch monarchs, have been buried in that church.

Dying in 1544, René bequeathed his titles to his young cousin, William I of Nassau-Orange. The ancestral coat of arms of the Ottonian line of the house of Nassau is shown right. Their distant cousins of the Walramian line added a red coronet to distinguish them. There is no specific documentation in the literature on the origin of the arms.
Royal family versus royal house
William, often referred to as William the Silent was named the heir to his uncle, René of Châlon, Prince of Orange’s estate and titles. However, René had it written that 11-year-old William must receive a Roman Catholic education. William’s father agreed to this, and William was sent to the Netherlands for his Catholic education. Thus, the Houses of Orange and Nassau were combined to create what is now known as the House of Orange-Nassau. The French army expelled them from the Netherlands in 1795, but on their return, the Prince of Orange became the first sovereign of the Netherlands in 1813. After the marquise (who died in 1713), the next holder was Louis of Mailly-Nesle [fr], marquis de Nesle (1689–1764).
John the Old, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg
There were supporters and partisans on both sides of the conflict enabling – and often forcing the hand of – that one noble house and their Habsburg overlords. Beatrix’s inauguration in 1980 was disrupted by squatters chanting ‘no homes, no coronation’. This was at a time of large-scale riots protesting the housing shortage and the Dutch authorities.

Anne was the eldest daughter of George II of Great Britain, who was a descendant of Elizabeth Woodville, wife of Edward IV of England. Elizabeth Woodville's grandmother was Margherita del Balzo, another descendant of Tiburge d'Orange. In this way, the territory of the principality lost its feudal and secular privileges and became a part of France.
William the Silent, Prince of Orange
Subsequently William led a successful Dutch revolt against Spain, however with independence the new country became a decentralized republic rather than a unitary monarchy. Known as William I the Silent, the prince of Orange led the Netherlands’ revolt against Spain from 1568 to his death in 1584 and held the office of stadtholder in four of the rebelling provinces. The gifted 16th- and 17th-century stadtholders were followed by less effective Orange leaders in the 18th century. House of Orange, princely dynasty that derived its name from the medieval principality of Orange, in old Provence in southern France. The dynasty was important in the history of the Netherlands and is that nation’s royal family. William of Nassau inherited the principality of Orange from his cousin René.
Blue, because of its nearness to purple, which in the northern climes tended to fade (red was the other choice), was also a popular color for those with royal aspirations. The billets could have been anything from blocks of wood to abstractions of the reenforcements holding the shield together. The fact that these were arms were very similar to those of the counts of Burgundy (Franche-Comté) did not seem to cause too much confusion. However, he was never recognized outside of Holland and areas friendly to Holland as Prince of Orange.
The lords of Chalons and Arlay were a cadet branch of the ruling house of the county of Burgundy, the Anscarids or House of Ivrea. Until 1340, it was customary for all sons of the prince of Orange to inherit the title.Only the direct line of descent to Raimond V is shown here. The family spawned many famous statesmen and generals, including two of the acknowledged "first captains of their age", Maurice of Nassau and the Marshal de Turenne. After the war, the four rebellious provinces became the Dutch Republic and were governed for a number of years by Counts of Nassau and Princes of Orange. By the 18th century, the area was under the governorship of less than effective leaders from the Orange ‘party’, which consisted of orthodox Calvinist leaders, different nobles, craft workers, and peasants.
These principalities were confiscated when Napoleon invaded Germany (1806) and William VI supported his Prussian relatives. He succeeded his father as prince of Orange later that year, after William V's death. The house of Orange-Nassau also had several illegitimate lines (see below) who based their arms on the arms of Nassau-Dillenburg. They also claimed on the basis of the testaments of Philip William, Maurice, and William III. Finally, they claimed on the basis that Orange was an independent state whose sovereign had the right to assign his succession according to his will.
By then, it was no more than a title because the principality had been annexed by Louis XIV of France. William the Silent (Willem I) was the first stadtholder of the Dutch Republic and the most significant representative of the House of Orange in the Netherlands. He was count of a portion of the German territory of Nassau and heir to some of his father's fiefs in Holland. William obtained more extensive lands in the Netherlands (the lordship of Breda and several other dependencies) as an inheritance from his cousin René of Châlon, Prince of Orange, when William was only 11 years old. After William's assassination in 1584, the title passed to his son Philip William (who had been held hostage in Spain until 1596), and after his death in 1618, to his second son Maurice, and finally to his youngest son, Frederick Henry. They could also claim descent from the del Balzo, an Italian branch of the des Baux family, via the marriage of Princess Anne to William IV, Prince of Orange.

But we actually had the fire going, and we did film at a corn maze. So we had controlled fire for that end scene where all of us pull up and we’re trying to figure out a game plan. In the distance, there was obviously some CGI, but we did that, which really helped with our emotion, especially that end scene. There's Someone Inside Your House is a 2021 American slasher film directed by Patrick Brice and adapted by Henry Gayden.
We did film in Santa Clarita, and we actually had hour lunches. She was such a beacon of light on set and such a presence. She was just really, really cool and very casual and fun. I wish I had more opportunities to work with her, but we would interact walking around on set. (Laughs.) Yeah, I ended up telling this to my director and everybody else. ” But that was the test because as soon as I did, they were just hollering.
There’s Someone Inside Your House has one great horror idea and a lot of familiar ones
But maybe what didn’t kill her made her strong enough to not get killed by the killer. Throughout "There's Someone Inside Your House," Makani is tortured by her own dark past that seems to haunt her everyday life. In the last half of the film, Makani is almost killed by the masked intruder, but she's thankfully rescued when her friend Alex Crisp (Asjha Cooper) stops by her home. Makani is brought to the hospital to recover, and we finally learn her horrible secret — which also happens to be the reason why she moved from her home in Hawaii to start over. "There's Someone Inside Your House" doesn't shy away from the fact that it was inspired by classic slasher films, although it does imbue itself with plenty of modern qualities to make it a fresh take on the genre. A significant aspect of the film is the diverse cast, which features BIPOC characters, a non-binary lead character, and openly gay characters — without making it a big deal or anything to be shocked by.

So I understood the rhythm, and Santa Clarita Diet was this single-camera show that was written like a sitcom. A lot of the time, people can do comedy, but understanding a four-camera setup type of rhythm is very specific. I also think that’s why a lot of people couldn’t really understand the kitschiness of Santa Clarita Diet and its tone because that’s what we were playing into. Essentially, you were watching this family sitcom, but, “Oh shit, the wife is undead and eats people.” (Laughs.) So it was this loving husband [Timothy Olyphant] and wife [Drew Barrymore] and their kind of offbeat daughter [Liv Hewson]. So that show was brilliant, and the writers were so smart.
There was one that was specifically for camera so it looked super, super close to the character, and then another one was for our stunt performers in case the mask broke or fell off during a stunt. If it was up to you, would you have preferred to not know the killer’s identity until the day you shot the reveal scene? I would be so worried about tipping my hand, inadvertently, in an earlier scene. Shifting to There’s Someone Inside Your House, there’s a unique vibe to this movie that sets it apart from its predecessors, and I think it’s because the tone parallels the personality of your character, Makani. The movie is a bit melancholy, distant and pensive like her, and the tonal/character change at the very, very end seems to support this theory as well.
Film adaptation
As the countdown to graduation begins, students at Osborne High are being stalked by a maniac intent on exposing their darkest secrets to the entire town, terrorizing victims while wearing a life-like mask of their own face. With a mysterious past of her own, Makani and her friends must discover the killer's identity before they become victims themselves. The diverse, artfully disheveled outcasts then proceed to bitch about the vapidity of performative grief and suggest that maybe killing off shitheads isn’t the worst thing? But Brice’s graceless, exposition-heavy chatter soon dampens any early spirit and alleged commentary on cancel culture is drowned out by rote cliche, quarter-baked small town business intrigue and knife-edge thin characters whose fates we struggle to care about.

(Honestly, there are a lot of threads floating around here, and none of them really connect.) Then Ollie tases Zach, and Makani stabs him, and it’s over. Next on the killer’s list is the student-body president, who’s likewise presented with proof of her misdeeds in the lead-up to her violent end. A pattern thus established, the question naturally becomes which of their classmates is taking the idea of cancel culture a little too literally — and whether they’re aware of the incident that resulted in Makani’s abrupt move.

Everyone hates Zach’s dad, the owner of Sanford Farms, for squeezing out the businesses in town. Zach says he hates his dad too and laughs along with the jokes everyone makes. At the end of the film, Makani, Ollie, and their friends head to the school's fall festival to try to thwart the killer, who they realize is going to strike there next. They arrive to find the cornfield maze up in flames, and Makani and Ollie run to confront the killer right before he kills their friend Zach's (Dale Whibley) father.
Park’s certainly charismatic enough to carry her scenes, and for a while it’s easy to follow Makani as she struggles to keep a low profile. But there’s not much to Makani beyond Park’s suggestive performance, least of all Makani’s threadbare and mostly implied relationship with her sleepwalking grandma (BJ Harrison), or her cute, but unremarkable thing with Ollie. Still, the most frustrating thing about “There’s Someone Inside Your House” has to be the gulf between its characters’ stated qualities and their actual behavior. Chipper and cruel student council leader Katie (Sarah Dugdale) gets stalked and dispatched in an early kill scene set in a church, which suggests that the filmmakers are more interested in plot twists than character development. And honestly, Katie’s not much more of a character than, say, Makani, whose main appeal stems from her barely considered past. Sparks do not fly between sassy Alex (Asjha Cooper), “the bitch” of the group, and her crush, shy Rodrigo (Diego Josef), nor is there much to keep viewers invested in girl next door Makani (Sydney Park) and her cigarette-smoking love interest Ollie (Theodore Pellerin).
The class applauds for her, and the movie ends. Makani also confesses to her friends that she pushed a girl into a bonfire during a hazing event at her old school, and was charged with assault. As it turns out, Makani’s friend Rodrigo (Diego Josef) is next to die, after his drug dependency habit is exposed. Rodrigo’s girlfriend Alexandra (Asjha Cooper) is convinced Ollie is the killer, but Makani defends him. Then, when the two are on a date together, Ollie lets slip that he knows about Makani’s past, including her real name.
But then it’s got these woven scenes of love and insecurities of being a teenager. And then of course, the fun element of a teen slasher film. So we pay homage to the John Hughes Breakfast Club types of movies, while keeping the integrity of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The next day at school, friends Makani, Alex, Zach, Darby, and Rodrigo let Caleb sit with them at lunch after he is shunned by the rest of the school. The school's student council president, Katie, announces that there will be a memorial at a church.
Number two, Makani Young is not her real name. We don’t know exactly what happened to cause Makani to change her name and transfer schools, but it is something bad enough that Makani fears she’s next on the killer’s list. But her friends have their own baggage—like her friend Zach (Dale Whibley), the son of a wealthy farm owner.
Jackson’s small town is Osborne, Kansas, where the locals enjoy the local high school’s football games with the same generic passion that they have for the town’s annual Halloween corn maze. Most of Osborne attends the game that Jackson should be playing in when he’s punished (to death) for a hazing ritual gone awry. That game, its audience, and the movie all stop dead in their tracks when everybody receives a mysterious text message with a video clip of Jackson and his buddies’ crime.

“I have watched a lot of true crime,” sniffs student council president Katie Koons (Sarah Dugdale) when the murders start happening, and that statement applies to There’s Someone Inside Your House on a grander scale. This is a film crafted by people who are aware of the genre’s tropes, but unaware of how to put a unique spin on them. The result is that the film never fully transcends the level of “put on in the background while decorating for Halloween” movie. When will someone dare to be as inventive or as gruesome as this genre requires? There’s Someone Inside Your House will keep people waiting.

The killer gives Makani the knife before Ollie and Makani's friends arrive and save Caleb. Makani then realizes that the killer is headed for the corn maze. So the film is actively trying to be about things, and is not a meta-celebration of itself and its genre — and is therefore novel. At the same time, it adheres to many slasher tropes, and leads to a noisy conclusion in which the villain spends a lot of time talking when he/she/it should be killing, and isn’t that always the villain’s tragic hubristic downfall?

Ever since Wes Craven went meta with the genre he helped establish, it’s become uncool to make a slasher without winking at the audience at least once or twice. But while a bit of ironic detachment isn’t necessarily a hindrance, too many latter-day horror flicks’ attempts to show they’re in on the joke make it difficult to get invested in their stories. Despite initially appearing poised to repeat this too-cool-for-school mistake, “Someone” moves past it by emphasizing not vengeance but redemption. No one seems to catch the longing eyes Makani and Ollie are making at each other, because Makani’s friends are too busy doing what teenagers in all horror movies do. They hook up, they party, they miss the killer in their midst, and then they start dying. So it goes in There’s Someone Inside Your House, same as it ever was.
Zach then reveals he intends to frame Makani for his crimes, but Ollie distracts him, allowing Makani to stab Zach, mortally wounding him. As Zach lies wounded and helpless, Makani rebukes his motives and denounces him for blaming and killing others for what's wrong when Zach himself is the real problem. Having exposed his actual secret of being a murderous psychopath, Makani then ultimately kills him, saying she doesn't need to wear a mask to show Zach who he truly was. You’re not onto something; you actually hit the nail right on the head. Our goal was to create this coming-of-age horror story, and in a lot of ways, it’s an American horror story. It’s psychological and it’s really dark in its tone.

In the end, despite the title, it's just a masked someone killing teenagers for reasons and those reasons are terribly dumb. Quickly though, that blueprint is ditched in favor of a story where anyone, including our heroes, who by all plot armor accounts can't secretly be bigots or homophobes, are in danger. But then...it just becomes a story about someone killing any teenager in town for any reason.
But what we get is a flat, muddled mess that fails because it just wants to have everything. It wants to have someone run through a house, but also a church. Oh, and the corn is on fire like in Freddy vs. Jason. And the dad is a cruel real estate developer like in Heathers. And people are killed in ways fitting their individual hangups like in A Nightmare on Elm Street. It wants very much to be all the things, but in that effort it loses any semblance of a satisfying story.

As the lights go out, prompting everyone to run away, Rodrigo is pursued by the killer wearing a mask of his face, who ultimately forces him to choke on his fentanyl pills before fatally slashing his throat.
Yeah, in general, it’s always really heavy when you’re carrying shame and guilt in your personal life, so having to portray that in a character who I came to really adore and admire was challenging.
