Due to the financial constraints, Crafts was forced to sell his beloved inn and moved to Vermont, where he founded the town of Craftsbury. Now known only as the “Publick House,” the inn survived the depression to reemerged as a popular landmark in downtown Sturbridge. In fact, the building hosted both the Marquis de Lafayette and his son, Georges Washington de Lafayette, when the two famously toured the nation during the 1820s. A member of Historic Hotels of America since 2018, the Publick House Historic Inn was originally established on the eve of the American Revolution. Colonel Ebenezer Crafts specifically constructed the inn during the late 18th century, who had originally planned to go into the ministry after his time at the Yale Divinity School.

Accommodations

The inn was even transformed into a boarding house for women called “The Elms” for a brief time, although it nearly closed down due to its dilapidated state. Fortunately, salvation arrived in the form of Richard Paige, who bought the entire complex for a single dollar amid a card game. Working alongside architect James A. Britten, Paige carefully restored the building back to its roots, which thus gave it a completely new lease on life. Thanks to his innovation and respect for history the Publick House Historic Inn has never closed its doors since. As such, this fantastic historic hotel has continued to offer unmatched hospitality and affordable accommodations to guests well into the present.

While theories behind any violent crime vary, the FBI has tried to piece together an explanation of why some people attack police officers. One CMPD officer who was injured by gunfire, Christopher Tolley, remains hospitalized in stable condition after undergoing surgery, Jennings said. Two other officers who were shot, Michael Giglio and Jack Blowers, were released on Monday after being treated. Two of the officers killed, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott, worked for the state’s Department of Adult Correction, according to Todd Ishee, the department’s secretary.

The police chief described the shooting as “the most tragic one” he had been involved with in his 32-year-long law enforcement career. The internal law enforcement memo gives a detailed outline of Monday’s shooting, revealing law enforcement agents approached the suspect outside of a home. The shooting in Charlotte happened as members of a US Marshals fugitive task force were serving a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Shannon Park neighborhood, Jennings said. “I ask that all Charlotteans keep them, the other injured officers, and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” Lyles said. Another officer, Justin Campbell, broke his foot and was released from the hospital Tuesday morning after being treated, according to a release from the police department.

Authorities identified the deceased suspect as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr. He was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony flee to elude out of Lincoln County, North Carolina, police said. Jennings said during a Tuesday news conference the investigation is active and ongoing. If you make a purchase by clicking one of the links, we may earn an affiliate fee.

Jennings said the task force had been serving the warrant to that suspect. Four other law enforcement officers were shot during the incident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said Monday evening. (CNN) — Four officers were killed in a shooting while attempting to serve a warrant at a home in Charlotte, North Carolina, including one deputy US marshal and two local task force officers, authorities say. There were 378 officers shot in the line of duty in 2023 – the highest number on record since the Fraternal Order of Police began tracking the data. They included 46 officers killed by gunfire and 20 killed in ambush-style attacks, according to the Fraternal Order of Police.

Both were 14-year veterans of the department assigned to the task force. Three members of the marshals’ task force were fatally shot, Jennings said. One of those killed was a deputy US marshal, 48-year-old Thomas M. Weeks, who is survived by his wife and four children, according to the US Marshals Service. Jennings said 12 CMPD officers fired their weapons during the incident, all of whom have been placed on administrative leave pending a standard officer-involved shooting investigation. Pro Soccer Wire operates independently, though, and this doesn’t influence our coverage. Police initially believed there might have been another suspect shooting from inside the residence, but Jennings told CNN on Tuesday it’s likely Hughes was moving through different parts of the home. Portland suffered a 3-2 road loss to Los Angeles FC in its most recent game on April 27, getting outshot 22 to 10. Charlotte FC’s last game was a 2-1 loss away from home to New York City FC while being outshot by 13 in the matchup, 18 to five. Officers killed in line of duty was highest on record in 2023, data shows

In 2022, there were 331 officers shot in the line of duty, including 62 by gunfire and 32 killed in ambush-style attacks, according to the Fraternal Order of Police. The year before, 346 officers were shot in the line of duty, including 63 by gunfire, the data shows. The compound tragedy adds to a growing list of officers shot and killed in the line of duty this year. At least 98 officers were shot in the line of duty from January through March, according to the Fraternal Order of Police, an organization representing US law enforcement officers. “I can’t remember an incident where three law enforcement officers were killed in the same incident, as well as one in critical condition and additional (officers) that were shot and injured,” Jennings said. The officers were met with gunfire from a “high-powered rifle” and returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect.

CNN Newsource

Hughes then jumped out of the second story window onto an awning and officers shot and killed Hughes, the memo said. The increased violence against police officers in the past few years mirrors the broader rise in shootings and violence in the US since 2020. As law enforcement agents set up a perimeter around the residence, the memo said, Hughes opened fire with what was likely an AR-15-style rifle from a second-story window, striking 8 officers, the memo said. One of the fatally wounded officers, Joshua Eyer, died from his injuries “with his wife and family by his side” after fighting for several hours, police said. The six-year veteran of the CMPD is survived by his wife and 3-year-old son, Jennings said during a Monday evening news conference. An internal law enforcement memo reviewed by CNN shows officers are looking for the person who bought the firearm used in the shooting to potentially bring federal charges.

We even included a few tips and tricks we used to make the Pillow Talk shades suitable for our skin tones and undertones. The pillow talk lipsticks are a moisturizing matte formula enhanced with the antioxidant lipstick tree and orchid extract for a soft, kissable finish. Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk is supposed to be universally flattering. However, those with dark skin tones noticed they were not getting that same rosy nude, "my lips but better" look. Enter Pillow Talk Medium, the warm berry-pink alternative that delivers that romantic, nude-pink effect on those with tan and dark skin tones.

Also, if you’re the type of person who likes to wear the same lipstick shade everyday, then again this is one of the best lipsticks you can buy for versatility. Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk Lipstick on 6 Different Skin Tones

Lipstick speed dating introduced me to shades I wouldn’t have sampled otherwise, but they felt more like occasion lipsticks than everyday picks. Pillow talk medium lipstick is a beautiful lipstick that is slightly darker than the original shade with warm-berry pink tones. These gorgeous lipsticks are the perfect blend of warm and cool tones and fall somewhere between a warm blush pink and a natural-toned nude.

charlotte tilbury lipstick pillowtalk

My Pillow Talk lipsticks launched to give EVERYONE what I call ‘the most beautiful lips of their life’. The moisturising matte formula smooths and shapes the lips of your dreams to perfect every pout. One coat enhances my natural lip color; two or three more, and I have a pink lip that’s just shy of a berry tone.

MAGICAL SAVINGS WITH EXCLUSIVE KITS

Well first off, this lipstick is the most gorgeous nude pink shade that enhances the natural shade of the lips. Today I’m excited to share my honest opinion and provide a full Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipsticks Review, with swatches of both the original pillow talk lipstick and medium pillow talk lipstick. Although I've long admired the nude-pink hue, my main hesitation was that I generally don't love matte formulas. However, I was recently given the opportunity to test these beloved products — if it's good enough for Britney, it should be good enough for me, right?!

And while I tend to prefer wearing the original shade for everyday wear, I LOVE how the medium shade looks paired with more full-faced makeup looks for date night and special occasions. The lipstick does have a slight vanilla scent to it, but it’s not overpowering or overwhelming. I also wanted to see for myself if the Pillow Talk lipsticks are really worth it or not. Charlotte Tilbury makes some of my absolute favorite beauty products.

Matte Revolution in Pillow Talk enhances the natural hue of your lips so is unique to your skin tone and natural lip color. Plus, I’ll break down all the details of the CT pillow talk lipsticks including formula, shade, packaging, ingredients, and how long it lasts on the lips. Singling out a lipstick I’d want to wear day in and day out—and that spoke to who I am at the same time—became my beauty obsession early this year. Like a freshman at college orientation, I took a “try everything once” approach to my hunt. I’ve tested cherry and candy-apple reds; "universal" nudes with mauve and orange undertones; and, in a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina–inspired moment of edginess, matte blacks and dark blues.

110% would recommend this shade for anyone who wants a versatile lipstick you can wear anytime. As someone who normally purchases $10 or less drugstore lipsticks, the pillow talk price tag of $34 is definitely higher than what I’m used to paying. While these lipsticks are a matte finish, they’re not overly drying, and have a really nice and comfortable velvet-smooth feel on the lips. These lipsticks also contain 3D glowing pigments that enhance the natural hue of the lips. I wore the lipstick for a recent evening of dinner and drinks and was pleasantly surprised by how well it held up.

"Mr. Jones" took on new meaning when the song about a misguided view of fame made Adam famous. “Sea Cruise” is a seemingly simple song about a young couple heading out on a boat trip. But the language and imagery Smith used have a much deeper meaning that speaks to the early beginnings of the civil rights movement in the United States. The repetition of the phrase “Oo-ee, oo-ee baby” adds a playful and charming tone to the song.

With multiple restaurants andbars on board, it’s also a great place to grab lunch before boarding yourcruise. During World War II, The QueenMary was converted into a troop ship, and over the course of the war carriedover 15,000 allied troops into battle. After the war, the ship was convertedback into an ocean liner and spent the next twenty years as a luxury cruiseship.

In 2018, Carnival completely renovated the Long Beach terminal, expanding to full use of the dome for an improved embarkation process. Since that time, the cruise line has also expanded offerings from the port, naming Long Beach as the homeport for its newly built ship Carnival Panorama in December 2019. Long Beach, California is known by some for its edgy punk and skate culture (made famous by the band Sublime in the '90s), but as a growing cruise port, it's exceedingly family friendly. Located just over 20 miles from LAX, Long Beach has a highly diverse yet welcoming small-town feel that flies under the radar of most tourists and Angelenos. For this reason, it has established a reputation as one of California's most underrated cities. As well, the terminal is right across from the city of Long Beach itself.

How To Book This Cruise

Meanwhile, itineraries have expanded beyond simply the well-known Mexican Riviera trips to include coastal California cruises, trips through the Panama Canal, and even cruises to Canada. The terminal building is closed until the staff is ready to begin boarding and check-in. If you have time, you could walk to the Queen Mary and enjoy the exhibits there. There are a number of reasonswhy this might be a problem, but traffic is probably the first thing that comesto mind.

From the star-studded Hollywood Boulevard to the celebrity-rich Beverly Hills, Los Angeles is home to iconic landmarks and people. Before or after your cruise from LA, tour Warner Brothers Studios and explore sets from your favorite TV shows.

You’ll need to account for time spent in traffic if you want to arrivefor your cruise on time. If you’re flying in, odds are that you’ll land in LAX,which isn’t always the easiest airport to get around in. There was a time when Long Beach was the soleWest Coast port for Carnival Cruises, and they offered cruises to Hawaii andAlaska from Long Beach, but no more.

If you are traveling from farther away and plan to stay at a hotel in the area, then look for a hotel with a park and cruise package. With these deals you can get your hotel and have parking (and often a shuttle) included. It shouldn’t be a surprise, then, that the most convenient way to get to the cruise ship is to take an Uber/Lyft. These services provide access from all major airports in the area. And you can be picked up anywhere else in the area to get to the ship on your own schedule.

The Firenze will join the company’s fleet in May 2024 as its second ship showcasing the Carnival Fun Italian Style experiences, including Italian-themed restaurants, bars and entertainment. The future sailings have new offerings, including six and eight-day itineraries aboard the Carnival Panorama, the largest ship based in the city. From May 2025 through April 2026, the vessel will feature a wider variety of options and destinations. Parking at the pier is available in the five-story, 1,450-space parking garage. The cost is $15 per day and payment can be made with cash or major credit card.

Banned at Sea: The Surprising Item You Can’t Bring on Carnival Cruises

Carnival Cruise Lines strongly recommends all of our guests travel with a valid passport. Children are also required to bring proof of citizenship, and if 16 and over, a photo ID is also required. A valid passport is required if you are traveling on any of our Europe cruises. Visa requirements vary depending on the passport under which you are traveling and the countries being visited. Proper travel documentation is required at embarkation and throughout the cruise.

What Documents Do I Need To Cruise On Carnival?

The cafe offers a sizable menu of specialty coffee beverages and tea, as well as free and for-fee snacks. I very much enjoyed an omelet with hashbrowns at Sea Day Brunch and salmon during the formal night dinner in the Pacific Restaurant. I also had a wonderful time at two special events — complimentary afternoon tea and an extra-fee Dr. Seuss-themed Thing 1 and Thing 2 Birthday Breakfast — held in the Atlantic Restaurant. Excellent added-fee options include steak, seafood and teppanyaki, which might be worth trying if you're celebrating a special occasion or feeling like a splurge. Unless you specifically request your cabin steward to come at night for turndown service instead of earlier in the day, your room will be made up in the morning.

Carnival Cruise Line Revamps Dining and Encourages Tipping for Room Service

One night, as I was dining at Rudi's with some of my travel companions, we joked that the lines were dangerously close to melding with the line for the nearby guest services desk. Although it's often loud, busy and difficult to navigate, especially on sea days, it's a prime place to sit and people-watch. I found myself gravitating there repeatedly to enjoy coffee or a snack from the nearby JavaBlue Cafe while watching the cast from that night's show rehearse at Center Stage — something you can't usually do on other ships. Collecting passports is not the cruise line’s decision, but is dictated by the regulations of the country the ship is visiting, with different countries having different regulations. Carnival Cruise Line has no recourse nor input that will affect the requirement, and if it is not done, Carnival Freedom would not be permitted to visit the planned Spanish ports of call. While it may be new to some guests who may be sailing these types of itineraries for the first time, passports are always safely stored onboard.

Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of proper travel documentation. All guests must complete their Online Check-in process no later than midnight (Eastern time) prior to their sailing date.

Carnival Jubilee overview

Entertainment on Carnival Jubilee is a combination of passenger favorites from other ships and new shows that you'll only find on this vessel. On Deck 18, you'll find Waterworks, which offers waterslides and a splash area for kids. I'm not a huge drinker, so I didn't personally try cocktails from the Center Stage Bar (Deck 6) or Grand View Bar (Deck 7) in Grand Central. The former features a bit of a retro vibe, and the latter is backed by a giant light-up wall that looks like wave. Unique to Carnival Jubilee are two new bars in the Deck 6 Currents zone. Drinks are priced individually unless you have a Cheers beverage package that includes alcohol.

The Bolt roller coaster, a minigolf course and a basketball court are also found in the SportSquare area within the Ultimate Playground zone. Dinner reservations are recommended for many eateries, even the main dining rooms. You can make them by visiting your restaurant of choice or by using the HUB app. If you don't make one, you might find yourself waiting 20 minutes or more for a table at peak times. If you make a reservation through the app, you'll receive a notification to report to the host stand when your table is ready. On my sailing, I stayed in a balcony cabin, which was elegantly decorated in neutrals with blue accents.

Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. Carnival Jubilee has standard North American 110-volt outlets in its cabins, as well as plenty of USB ports. In my balcony room, I had three standard outlets and four USB lightning ports by the vanity. There was also a USB port (non-lightning) on either side of the bed, just below the reading lamp. Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is allowed but only in designated outdoor areas on Deck 8 mid-ship on the starboard side.

In the event of a different name on the cruise/airline ticket and the guest’s photo I.D. As a result of a marriage, divorce or a legal name change, documentation (original or clear, legible copy) supporting this change is required (at embarkation), such as a marriage certificate, marriage license or legal name change court document. Failure to bring documentation bridging the name differences could result in denied boarding. It is important that the guest's full name (first name and last name) on the cruise and airline tickets be the same as the guest's unexpired, government-issued photo ID that will be used for travel identification. Failure to bring documentation bridging the name differences could result in denial of boarding. Even though a guest has completed registration using Online Check-in, it is still the responsibility of the guest to present the required travel documents at the time of embarkation.

Western Caribbean locales in Mexico like Yucatán and Cozumel deliver exciting attractions, from ancient Mayan ruins to flamingo lagoons, and activities like swimming with dolphins, dune buggy rides, sailing, snorkeling, diving and zip lining.

Passengers should check with their country’s embassy or consulate to determine if a visa is needed for the countries they will be visiting during the cruise. Carnival requires all passengers to provide proof of citizenship before boarding the ship. This is to ensure compliance with international travel regulations and to prevent any issues that may arise during the cruise. All passengers, including children, must have a valid passport to travel on a Carnival cruise.

Photocopies of required documentation are not acceptable in any circumstance. Routine ServiceVisaCentral’s Routine Service supports customers who have sufficient time to apply for their passports directly through the U.S. Gratuities can be added at the time of booking or anytime up to the sail date. Guests who booked directly with Carnival may add their pre-paid gratuities on Carnival.com. If a guest booked with a travel agent, they may contact their travel professional to add pre-paid gratuities to their booking. Prepaid gratuities are reflected in the 'Miscellaneous Charge' field on the confirmation and in the guest's E-Documents.

Ear-piercing shrieks reverberated throughout the space, which was also blocked off to passengers trying to pass through. Pay a fee to ride, and you (or you and a friend) can navigate two laps of twists and turns around the ship's funnel as you use the throttle and hyper-boost buttons to try to break the day's speed record. (Yes, you'll be timed, and don't forget to smile for a photo.) The ocean views from above are totally worth the cost. On the upper deck is the popular Guy's Burger Joint, which is oddly set a bit farther away from the action on Excel Class ships. Farther afield on Deck 16, passengers can check out Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken restaurant or venture to Lido Marketplace, the ship's complimentary buffet.

The space is simply packed with tables — so much so that there were only about two inches between my table and the one next to me, even though I was dining alone. It then took nearly 10 minutes for a waiter to bring me water and another 10 before someone came to take my order. In my experience, waiters were diligent in asking about dietary requirements and restrictions. However, it was disappointing to see that many menus weren't marked with specific options for vegetarians, vegans and people who can't eat gluten. Ambulatory-accessible rooms provide accommodations for people who walk with the help of assistive devices like canes or walkers.

Experience lighthouses, lobster bakes and craggy sea cliffs in Portland, Maine, and enjoy a trip to Saint John, a beautiful city on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, Canada. A stop in the charming fishing village of Halifax, Nova Scotia offers beautiful gardens, more delicious seafood and double-decker bus tours. After you pull into port in the Big Apple, make sure to see a Broadway show, visit the Empire State Building and take a stroll through Central Park. As luck would have it, you’ve suddenly got a few open days in your schedule and a yearning to travel somewhere exotic.
